Friday night's summer temperature wasn't the only heat being felt by those upstairs at The Queen Theater in Wilmington. Delaware's own Hockaday (FKA Kae Hock) turned up the temp when he performed and released his tenth studio album "Bane Of Fear", before a packed house of fans and supporters. Wilmington artist/activist Richard Raw's company produced the concert Friday night; just a month after releasing his new album "Word Warrior" downstairs at the Queen. The beautiful part of this was seeing two of Delaware's best come together to create an unforgettable night of musicianship and lyrical craftsmanship.

The concert featured a live band accompanied by the legendary DJ Tactics. Dot Summers and Sebastian Graves opened the show and warmed up the audience with two 15 minute sets. Dot showed off his lyrical wordplay with an acapella and song, followed by Sebastian who brought a new age trap vibe to the concert.

Despite the normal protocol, Hockaday treated the crowd to a couple of old favorites like Django; basically opening for himself. Once he started his main set, it was clear that Hock intended to start a new chapter in his career as an artist. Songs like his single "Setback" and "Nevermind", were crowd favorites, but the entire performance kept the fans engaged from beginning to end. Hock was accompanied on stage by producer Kazi Jones & Dot Summers, which getting flawless background vocals from Ladyy Defined and Aziza Nailah. Elkton native Yonnie McFly also joined Hockaday on stage to perform their hit "Highlight Reel", which had everybody turned up to the max.

Hockaday ended his show with his well-known anthem "Diamond Love", which is a tribute to his love for Delaware. A love that was reciprocated back Friday night not only by his peers in the Delaware Hip-Hop scene but by a real base of fans and supporters, some who have followed Hock from day one. The biggest takeaway from Friday night was a lesson that many artists in Delaware need to learn. The only way we can be successful as a state is if we invest in each other as an arts community.
